KBB Dishcloth-UPDATE 9/14

I have been knitting up a couple of dishcloths and still have a few more to go. Found out that the son wasn't going to use them except as for hot pads to set his pans on top of. So I explained that Mom has the ability to knit up a few more if they got ruined (hello Mr. Garbage Disposal, you bain of my existence!) or if he got tired of the colors, or they were soiled (do laundry!)..or or or... You get the idea, right?

Before you ask, the patterns I used for these up above include the Bridal Shower Lace Dishcloth (UPDATE: Now posted in the list of patterns to the left side of the page..sorry!) and the Puffy Basketweave Dishcloth. Both are my patterns you can find in the Wishing I was Knitting at the Lake Patterns over on the left ( <---- ) side of this page.

While picking through the colors that I had I decided to play with Columns Dishcloth and the KBB Baby Blanket that are over the left ( <----- ) in the pattern section. I've now come up another tweak on the pattern, and today I give you the KBB Dishcloth. (Or washcloth if you prefer.) I have used Both Lion Cotton and Lily's Sugar and Cream. With the Kelly Green, I'm certain that the color is going to run the first one or two times it hits water. Doesn't surprise me. A bit of color came off on my fingers while knitting it up. It's the same as the green dishcloths that I'd made at least 10 years ago in the Sugar and Cream yarn. It's one of my complaints about that brand. But, when that's the brand available when you're at the store and you HAVE to get some cotton...or if that's the color you're looking for and the other companies don't produce it...well, you make sure the user is aware that it's going to bleed green into your dishwater in the beginning. Then, make sure the first couple of times you do laundry, it's not anywhere near your favorite white pair of pants. Trust me. I learn things in interesting ways at times.

This, like so many of my patterns, is a simple pattern to make, but good for texture. I like texture. Texture gives it character. It keeps you from boring knitting. (In my opinion.) And dishcloths are small in project size to keep you from getting to the 'this is really boring' part of a huge project. Or, as I found the past few weeks...from falling asleep while you're knitting across a row when the heat is over 100*F day after day. (oy!)

(US) 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles
Cast on 35 sts.

1-6 ) K all rows.

7) K across
8) Sl 1, K3, P3, *K1tbl, P3* 6 times; end K4

Repeat rows (7- 8) for a total of 20 repeats.

Knit 7 rows. B/O in Purl. Cut yarn, weave in ends, steam block.

Now, off to make a couple of Grandma's Favorites with these and a baby blanket with the colors of a certain University (who'd better redeem themselves after last week's 'unmentionable' football game) for another family baby due in November. She'll be #4 daughter for that family, and I believe it's time to dress her 'properly' since she will be living within walking distance of said University Football team. Ya. Not going to send pink this time. (should make middle daughter happy..she's not a 'fan' of pink!) Nor am I working on lavender. I think lavender's ability to put me to sleep is going to have to wait a bit for me to pick it up again. At least that's my feelings this week. (ha ha )

DOH! and the kid...

Isn't that what Homer says? I forgot to take pictures of the baby blanket before handing it off to my daughter...as soon as she's able to breathe in her schedule, she's promised to take pictures and email them to me before sending it off to Little Miss "B".

In the meantime, I've been hanging with my son and a few of his friends. And then I left him with a couple of zippy bags ready to go! Oh, and I'm trusting that he got the Banana Cake out of the oven on time. After all, his birthday was in July, so I figured it was a bit past time for his birthday cake. However, it wasn't as over due as the oldest daughter's ... she got hers on Monday evening. Did I mention her birthday was back in March? Schedules...I tell ya!

I'm knitting up a bunch of dishcloths today. Shortly, I'll post the pattern for one more after I get a few more knit up. The son's new apartment needed a few little extras, me thinks. After all, Mom left him a few dishes to wash once they're all emptied.

And, if I do say so...and I'm so not biased here....he cleans up fairly well...

I found the secret!

Here's the secret to knitting and falling asleep! You take 100+ degree heat...hold the double stranded afghan on your lap..and try not to pass out! We're getting close. 3 rows to go..and with any luck...pictures later today! Keep tuned...keep cool! We're melting here! But first, have to make some lasagne and some banana cake for dinner..send ice!

The Snoozefest is plugging along

This is getting to the point of being funny...on Sunday I woke up to realize that I'd been napping for 30 minutes after finishing 2/3rds of the pattern repeat. Yesterday it was back to knit half a row, snooze....knit half a row, snooze...knit half a row, snooze... I've noticed that I've gone past the 1/2 way point! Can I stay awake long enough to finish this before Little Miss "B" finishes Graduate School?

Today, I'm drinking diet coke...my caffeine of choice....and going back to my nap...errrrrrrr......knitting...ya..knitting! My story and I'm sleeping through it..errrrrrrrr sticking to it.


On another note...do any of you get Cast On? There's a technique in the new issue that I'm dying to try (if I could just stay awake long enough to get there...grrrrrrrrrrr) for knitting in the round with multiple colors and not having to carry the yarns up rounds creating floats. They gave a pattern there for socks, but I was thinking more on the lines of baby hats. This blanket snoozefest..has got to be done! please! I have plans for so many other projects! And I don't want to start anymore since there are still babies on the way! (We won't talk about how many other things have been moved into a box and then to the garage that aren't 'immediately needed'. Let's just say...you would need to take off your shoes, and use both hands and then some to count high enough and leave it at that. But shhhhhhhh.....don't tell anyone!)

Never ending blanket..zzzzzzz

This has become a magical baby blanket. It has powers that puts me to sleep within moments! It seems every time I pick it up to work on it, within moments I am asleep. For a good chunk of time. It doesn't matter if it's at night, the evening, or the middle of the day. I'll get part way across the row, and my eyes get droopy. I'll start nodding off...and the next thing I know, it's 30 minutes later. Or more. It's making me nuts! I've made this pattern several times already, the baby has already arrived...and I adore the yarn I'm working with...but whamm-0! It just knocks me out! EVERY.SINGLE.TIME! I'm beginning to feel like Sleeping Beauty (minus the beauty part) and I keep looking around to find the spindle that I must have poked my finger with that is causing this sudden sleepiness.

I'm just hoping that once this gets finished (providing I can stay awake that long), it'll retain it's special powers and help Little Miss "B" have many restful nights...even if she's already giving her parents lots of sleep. Apparently, she's a veryyyyyyyyyyyyy good baby!

Have you ever had that happen to you? No matter how hard, or awake, when you start knitting, a project finds a way to never get off the needles! And there are so many things I want to get started, but I have to finish this first! HELP! GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

I had found this in the store! And let me just say...Sinfully Delicious!!!MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooodness sakes alive! (even for a Tiger's fan)

Miss you baby girl! It was a blast! I know I know I know....I have baby blankets to knit...I'm working on them! honest! I promise!

SHE'S HERE!

Remember last June...when I brought these back home to a certain baby shower?

And Mommy and Daddy and Grandma and Great-Grandma looked like this?

Well, Little Miss "B" showed up last night...6:08pm at 8# 10ozs and 20" long!

And the family is totally head over heels in love with her. Even if she was more than a week past her due date! Well worth the wait. Mommy and baby. Very Healthy!

And I'm thinking that little white sweater I made her...won't fit for more than 5 minutes! Good thing we've got another one on the needles for her...time to click faster!

AND....my Dad...was given the 100% CANCER FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! title officially by his doctor this week! HALLELUJAH!!!! Thank you all for your prayers, good wishes, and amazing support!

Diversion tactics

Rumor has it that there will be a brand new baby girl in the family later today...and of course, I'm no where near finished with her blanket or her sweater. (Come on, it's a tradition, like sending out Christmas cards just in time for Valentine's Day...it wouldn't be me without being late for something!) So, while I'm clicking away...I'll divert attention with some 'playtime' with the kiddlet! Man oh Man, do I get it...and why she LOVESSSSSSS this place!
